I'm thrilled to share the news that on the 20th of September 2025, Whitelabrecs will be at the Woodbridge Ambient Festival! This is part of a special Ambient Label Hub event held in the town's Shire Hall, alongside my fellow British labels and good friends Driftworks, Elm Records and Evergreen Music!
The festival has been going since 2022 and is held in the Suffolk town of Woodbridge, which is also the hometown of Ambient music's original legend Brian Eno! 2025 will be its fourth year and the festival takes place over 3 days between September the 19th and September the 21st. This year, festival regular Tom Rogerson will lead a performance at St. Mary's Church alongside friends Loula Yorke, Laura Cannell, Peter Chilvers, Ted Morcaldi and Charlotte Jolly. There will be loads going on over the course of the weekend, including; the opening night at the Tidemill; an Ambient river walk across the Deben; live music by the river and New Street Market; the afore-mentioned Tom Rogerson and friends; the 'Slow Down Sessions' with music and other complementary artforms; a lengthy Ambient Electronic Music Open Mic on the Sunday and a whole lot more.
We got involved after connecting with organiser Jan Pulsford; I'm told that she heard about Andrew Heath through Gary James, a local radio DJ who presents a show called Uptown Transmission on Radio Mothership. Gary had played some of Andrew's music! We've so many great friends in the scene, many of whom are here in the UK. We decided that rather than make it a Whitelabrecs and Driftworks thing, it would be a more interesting experience to have a couple more labels join us and that's where we got the idea for this event.
So, In this week's blog post I wanted to share an overview of the Ambient Label Hub, so that you can see what we have planned...
If it all sounds of interest, you can find out more HERE - it would be amazing if you can make it!
EVENT SUMMARY
(PRESS RELEASE)
Woodbridge Ambient Music Festival presents a unique opportunity to meet and chat with some of the UK’s prominent Ambient music labels including Whitelabrecs, Driftworks, Elm Records and Evergreen Music. Combine this with short, laidback live performances and a vinyl DJ set, and you’ve got the perfect setting to experience the warm, community spirit that defines this genre.
During the afternoon there will be informal conversations with the featured artists, each of whom run or are heavily involved with UK-based Ambient music labels. You can expect to have insights into how to approach and present yourself to a label, mastering, what labels can do for artists and what it’s really like behind the scenes of running a record label.
Throughout the event, held inside the historic 450-year-old Shire Hall, there will be informal performances by the hosting labels and their artists, as well as a special vinyl DJ set from Harry Towell of Whitelabrecs. Of course, there will be a merch table too, where you can see for yourself the beautifully designed CDs, vinyl, tapes and wares that these labels have to offer.
There will be an opportunity to take part in an interactive Ambient music installation and you can also drop off and pick up unwanted records from the ‘Ambient Amnesty’ – an initiative to help reduce waste and support discovery.
Call in to the friendly Ambient Label Hub, sit and stay a while. Soak up the atmosphere, ask a question or two and enjoy some remarkable Ambient music.
WHAT'S HAPPENING
Advice and support for artists
We aim to support artists by sharing our collective expertise in release strategies, art and design, mastering, branding, performance, marketing, merchandise, and productivity. We will hold a ‘stand-up’ Q&A session covering a few of these topics over the mic. Additionally, we'll be on hand to speak to, where you can ask for advice on any challenges you face, share ideas you may have or chat about anything you’re generally curious about.
Artist Performances
There will be four performances during the afternoon by Adrian Lane, Andrew Heath & Mosaicist, James Osland and Slow Clinic. Each performance will be a low-key 20 minute set that will present a range of Ambient music styles. The artists will remain in the Shire Hall should you have any questions for them.
Ambient Interactive
Adrian Newton of Evergreen Music will be presenting an interactive sound installation, which produces Ambient music using generative procedures, an approach originally developed by Woodbridge’s very own Brian Eno. Visitors to the Ambient Label Hub will be able to influence the evolving soundscape simply through touch, or even just using their brainwaves. So, you’re invited to contribute to a collaborative composition - no musical experience necessary!
Ambient Amnesty
Unwanted CDs, tapes and vinyl can gather dust or worst, end up in landfill. One man’s trash is another’s treasure and so we had the idea that people could bring in their unwanted records and put them in the box provided. Artists can offload copies of their own work as a way of raising awareness about their music and people can make up a little space on their shelves. Visitors can browse these discarded items and take things away for free!
Record Label Merchandise
You can see the various CDs, tapes, vinyl and clothing available from the record labels by visiting the merch tables. You can find out how they’re made, understand what goes into the production process and if anything takes your fancy, you’ll be able to buy direct from the labels. There may be opportunities to get early access or exclusives!
Vinyl DJ Set
The Ambient Label Hub will close with a live vinyl DJ performance by me, Harry Towell! I'll blend a range of Ambient, Electro Acoustic, Modern Classical and light Electronic styles using the renowned Camelot Mixing Wheel. If you read the blog regularly you'll know how much I love vinyl, and may have heard tales about my DJing days. Well, my pride and joy Technics 1210s will be with me - still going strong after over 20 years!
