Somehow 3 months have flashed by since our last Vervine show in January and I wonder whether this show now being quarterly is going to somehow mark the rapid passing of time! As always, this two hour show cross sections our musical selections, complete with voiceovers. Andrew had a small guest slot in the January show and now he'll share it with me as we have an hour each. Read on if you want to know what Vervine is, how it started and what it'll be in the future. Or if you're already familiar, feel free to whizz to the Mixcloud player to listen!
Vervine began in 2022, originally intended as a way to showcase my thirst for all kinds of music. I wanted to cover quite a lot of ground and include everything from Jazz, Folk, Funk, World, Electronic, Deep House, to Ambient and Modern Classical music of course. So the name came from the term 'verve' meaning flavour, and the 'ine' to mean 'of flavour'. The shows were infrequent and also served as a way to share some current and forthcoming tracks from Whitelabrecs.
In January Andrew Heath launched his new record label called Driftworks, a sister label to Whitelabrecs and so we thought it would be nice to join forces on these shows and share an hour each. So, this show's taken on a bit of an Ambient theme as I spotlight the charitable compilation series 'For LA', organised by Hollie and Keith Kenniff. I also have a short feature of a couple of favourite fellow-UK labels; Home Normal and Quiet Details, alongside recent records I've bought or been sent and of course, some material from the Whitelabrecs catalog.
In hour two, Andrew previews some music that is on the way later this year on Driftworks, alongside some of his personal favourites. He then wraps up his section with selections chosen by members of our community, the Inner Echo.
