FIRST SNOW OF THE YEAR

Mechelen, Belgium

Ambient, Electro-Acoustic

First Snow of The Year is the ambient project helmed by Belgian artist Erik Sevenans. Adopting the moniker in 2017 upon relocating to Munich, Germany, Sevenans found inspiration in the cold landscapes at the time, and the cultural shifts of his new surroundings.

Erik's musical journey began in 2005, initially as a bass player for indie bands, evolving into a singer-songwriter and guitarist. In 2017, the pivotal move to Munich for work purposes combining with a harsh winter prompted him to delve into Ambient music. The resulting debut album, "Norwegian White" became his own personal winter soundtrack, created during subway commutes and influenced by the solitude and introspection found in Haruki Murakami's novels. The subsequent year brought forth "Awakening of the Pines" a sonic reflection of Munich's natural beauty and this was released on Whitelabrecs in 2023.

Despite lacking formal musical training, Erik's intuitive, ear-driven approach to music production flourished during the pandemic. Overcoming self-doubt, he refined his recording skills and embraced a more confident creative process, resulting in a large body of work during that time. His sound is influenced by post-rock bands like Mogwai and Explosions in The Sky. Erik weaves a diverse musical tapestry that has found its home in the ambient scene. In 2022, fueled by newfound confidence, Erik Sevenans decided to share his work with the world. Collaborating with labels like Sonic Dialogues and Slow Echo, he stepped into the ambient music scene, marking his name as a fresh and compelling presence.
