I invited Gregory Paul Mineeff to put together a list of songs that have influenced him most and he's created a mix clocking in at just over an hour, along with a track-by-track commentary on what each of these songs means to him. You can most certainly hear and feel the influence of this collection, on his new album I Knew You Once, which you can also check out at the bottom of this blog post.

David Gilmour - Castellorizon
A beautiful track that gives some idea of where I wanted the guitar to fit among the sounds of this album and the world of Modern classical and ambient music. I love David Gilmour and really could have put so many tracks from either David Gilmour or so many from Pink Floyd.

Jimi Hendrix - Pali Gap
I spent my teenage years listening and playing many of Hendrix’s songs. To me, and I am sure to so many, Hendrix is the epitome of a rock guitarist. His endless variation and inventiveness is astounding.

Yann Tiersen - Penn Ar Lann
I absolutely love Yann Tiersen. This is my favourite of his piano compositions, of which there are so many great ones. I have listened to Penn Ar Lann countless times and love playing it myself. I could have put so many tracks here, my favourite Tiersen album Is Skyline but I think the transition from Hendrix to Tiersen piano is a great juxtaposition.

The Dead Texan - La Ballade D’alain Georges
My intention for the album was to meld Modern Classical, ambient and drone influences with lo-fi beats and post-rock sounds. While I would be listening to A Winged Victory For The Sullen or The Dead Texan I would be imagining lead guitar building melody and mood and adding to the beautiful mixture of sounds. The Dead Texan is an amazing record of texture and motion.

Daniel Avery and Alessandro Cortini - Illusion Of Time
This is a wonderful track off a wonderful collaborative album which I have listened to many times. I love Cortini’s work especially, and it is this type of synth composition I wanted to meld with the other Modern Classical inspired, drone or beat driven tracks on the album.

Dirty Three - Love Changes Everything II
The Dirty Three are a beast of a band. I had the pleasure of seeing them live recently and it was a magical experience. I love Jim White’s percussion and the mixture of Warren Ellis’ fiery energy and Mick Turner’s controlled perfection is endlessly fascinating and inspiring.

Boards of Canada - Jacquard Causeway
I could have put any number of tracks here, but I love the grittiness to this track, the way it builds and loops. Perfect.

John Hopkins - Abandon Window
I have taken so much inspiration from John Hopkins in the way his tracks are mixed and the compelling way the layers are built, each sound having its own sonic footprint and space. When I think of mixing, I think of John Hopkins, and I think of Radiohead. Lofty heights to aspire to. I think this track works perfectly here.

Pink Floyd - Marooned
I think the transition from Boards of Canada to John Hopkins to Pink Floyd is fantastic. This shows the sort of album I was trying to build with the jumps between styles which I think fit together amazingly well. This track exhibits so much inventiveness and variation and the lead tone, playing and emotion on this is amazing.

Sean Ono Lennon - Starwater
I have had this album on constant repeat recently. Ono Lennon is an amazingly talented musician with some amazing work and collaborations under his built (if you haven’t heard The Claypool Lennon Delirium you need to check it out) and this track is perhaps a bit of a glimpse into a future direction I am leading into.

A Winged Victory For The Sullen - Our Lord Debussy
I love this album. The beautiful restraint shown with the piano is mesmerising. Worlds are explored and exploded with a single chord. I love the way the track builds and takes its time to expand and reach its conclusion.

Peter Broderick - Eyes Closed and Traveling
A perfect way to end. Another amazingly talented musician with a beautiful track. I have listened to this one many times. An endless source of inspiration.
