Out Now! Logic Moon – I See Planets

The show must go on and we’re over mid-way through our busy schedule for 2019. Next we’re back in Germany as we welcome Mainz based artist Tobias Lorsbach who records as Logic MoonI See Planets is a deep and dense Ambient/Drone album created using guitar and retro synths and it features the collage artwork of Thomas Easton. This will be available in 2019’s signature gatefold-LP style CD, in a run of 100 copies with packaging design arranged by the artists themselves. The album is out today and has plenty of detail, so should not be viewed as a pure drone album. It should appeal to those who follow artists such as Truthiscolor, Hotel Neon or Tone Color.

I See Planets is available now after having been released to subscribers of our mailing list last weekend, who had the first opportunity to grab a copy. “Logic Moon is Tobias Lorsbach, an artist from Mainz, Germany. His previous releases have appeared on labels such as Archives, Archipel and his own spontanMusik imprint across all physical and digital formats. He spent many years in the minimal techno scenes since the early 2000s and whilst out on a field recording excursion, he fell upon the idea of layering some Ambient drones. From here, his debut album as Logic Moon was born, Herbst11.

Tobias’ musical background has drawn in a widescreen of genres with him having performed guitar in a death metal band, embarked on a DJ career and now as an Ambient musician. His varied experiences have only served to give birth to a range of ideas which are evident in his latest album ‘I See Planets’, clocking in at just over an hour.
Compositions typically start life as a sketch on guitar before synth and additional components were added to build an environment.

Retro-futurism is the over-arching concept to I See Planets, something which Tobias does not map out for you the listener to read so you’re clear. Instead, this bewildering atmosphere is a heady journey that requires the time and space for it to unfold carefully.
The title track opens proceedings over 8 minutes, taking its time to wash over science fiction tales from the 70s. ‘Somnia’ follows, hinting of a drowsy night’s gaze into the black sky above as you imagine all kinds of stars, galaxies and planets. Fleeting moments of warmth are interspersed with themes of artificial intelligence, comprehension of time and darkness.

We’ve teamed up with Thomas Easton for the artwork, who produces retro-futuristic collages. We discovered his work through Instagram and we’re pleased to find a work of art which truly encapsulates the tales of I See Planets.”

Coming soon…Old Amica – Taiga

Last week we shared a teaser video of our next release which will be by Stockholm/Umeå, Sweden artists Old Amica in what will be their 6th album and their 2nd instrumental. Taiga began as music to score a film but once that process had passed, this duo set about working their material along with new recordings into an album, centered around childhood memories. This one’s a thoroughly well detailed, well paced album which straddles Electro Acoustic, Post Rock, Ambient and Modern Classical. This will be available in 2019’s signature gatefold-LP style CD, in a run of 100 copies with packaging design arranged by the artists themselves. We’ll release this officially on or around the 29th of June 2019. Those who follow artists such as Helios, Library Tapes or Benoit Pioulard should enjoy this!

“‘Taiga’ is the sixth release by Swedish duo Old Amica and their second wordless album. It began as music to accompany moving images in a short film they scored, but ended up as a collection of small fragments of childhood memories. The music for the short movie later got nominated as Best Music Score at The Annual Copenhagen Film Festival. Taiga is the endless highways, it’s the pulsating colours that blanket the starry sky, the disconnection, the icicle prisms, the midnight sun, the polar nights, and the background hiss. It was inspired by the words of Karin Boye, the voice of Carl Sagan, and the sounds of Popol Vuh.

The short film, which is called Place. Poetry. Periphery was the starting point with the first pieces of music having been written some 650km apart. Filmmaker Jonas Börjesson from Halmstad followed the process of six poets and their interpretations on the theme of place, poetry and periphery and he enlisted Old Amica’s Johan from Stockholm and Linus from Umeå to create the music. After having finished the score, these musicians continued recording and adding sounds together in a basement in Stockholm.

Taiga is now a work of art in its own right, whilst it still leans back towards its roots in the moving imagery which inspired it. This album ended up as a collection of small postcards of childhood memories, which is also depicted visually through the music video for Sävast and two teaser videos.”

Our next highly limited edition gatefold vinyl-effect CD sees Berlin, Germany based artist Sven Laux return, who released the now out of print Schachmatt with us in 2018. ODD is an emotional and personal album for Sven, following the birth of his daughter and a move to a new house with a new studio. It’s the first album he created in his new environment and it is a beautiful Modern Classical album, featuring the monochrome photography of Peter Nejedly. As usual for 2019, this will be available in 2019’s signature gatefold-LP style CD, in a run of 100 copies. Based on how quickly Schachmatt sold out, it’s recommended to grab a copy quick as these won’t hang around! We’ll release this officially on or around the 8th of June 2019. Those who follow artists such as Max Richter, Ben Frost or Glåsbird should enjoy this!

“We’re pleased to welcome back Berlin based artist Sven Laux, responsible for the now out of print Schachmatt which we released in 2018. Sven has been no stranger to the Ambient and Modern Classical scenes since then, with a release on Archives, a collaboration with Daniela Orvin as well as working on his new label Seasides On Postcards.

ODD is the first album Sven has created in his new studio, after moving into a new place following the birth of his daughter. Whilst working on the album, he always had in mind that there are calm parts in life followed by faster parts. He depicts the peaks and troughs of our existence through soft swathes of orchestral ambience interspersed by moments of rhythmic strings and electronic pulses.
Sven draws inspiration from the film soundtrack greats and constantly strives to build a bridge between classical music and Ambient; in ODD he created an entirely digital album but worked hard to program the right timbres to achieve a realistic orchestral sound.

There is a settled feeling to ODD thanks to long passages of repetitive strings and this forms the backdrop of the album as a broadly melancholic listen, laced with emotion from Sven’s own experiences. These are intended to draw the listener into the stories and absorb them. An overwhelming new dawn of possibilities becomes the theme for Sven with his new home, studio and indeed the new life of his baby daughter beginning this chapter.
What does ODD stand for? One Dramatic Day? Opening Doors? Is it a phrase in German? Does it mean anything? It will remain undefined. For us, these seven untitled pieces serve as a cinematic milieu, with the monochrome packaging presented as close-up film reels covered in dust.
